Verbal Jiu-Jitsu®
The Art of Staying Calm, Clear, and in Control
Verbal Jiu-Jitsu is practical verbal self-defense.
It teaches you how to handle disrespect, tension, and confrontation without escalating conflict or losing your composure.
Just like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu uses leverage instead of strength, Verbal Jiu-Jitsu uses timing, awareness, and language instead of emotional reaction.
This is not therapy.
This is training.

What Is Verbal Jiu-Jitsu?
Verbal Jiu-Jitsu is the skill of redirecting conflict before it turns into chaos.
It trains you to:
-

-

-
Protect your dignity and safety with words
It is about control, not dominance.

About Professor Sergio Silva
Professor Sergio Silva has been studying and applying Verbal Jiu-Jitsu principles for over 25 years, long before the concept had a formal name.
Through decades of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, self-defense, and real-world conflict management, verbal control was always essential. Staying calm, reading intent, and redirecting tension were not optional skills. They were survival skills.
After the dojo closed during the pandemic, Professor Silva entered a deep period of study, refinement, and observation. This time allowed the system to be clarified, simplified, and structured into what is now taught as Verbal Jiu-Jitsu.
From 2018 to 2019, multiple Oakland and Alameda law enforcement officers trained at the academy in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense. These environments demanded composure, clarity, and communication under stress. Verbal Jiu-Jitsu was applied daily, not discussed theoretically.
This program is the result of decades of experience teaching:
-
Children
-
Teens
-
Adults
-
Security professionals
-
Law enforcement
Verbal Jiu-Jitsu is not about winning arguments.
It’s about staying centered when it matters most.
The Evolution of Verbal Ki-Jitsu
While working as an Executive Protection professional, Professor Sergio Silva was formally introduced to the discipline of Verbal Judo. Many of the law enforcement officers and protection agents he worked alongside were already trained in this system and relied on it daily to manage high-stress situations without unnecessary force.
This exposure sharpened his focus. Communication was no longer just instinctive. It became a discipline to be studied, refined, and mastered.
Long before this period, Professor Silva had already studied Psychology at the university level while completing his degree in Physical Education in Brazil. Human behavior, emotional regulation, and the power of communication had always been central interests. Executive protection work simply forced those interests to become precise.
Over the course of five years of dedicated study and application of Verbal Judo, Professor Silva developed a deep, practical understanding of verbal de-escalation, command presence, and decision-making under stress. With real-world proof of what worked and what failed, he began going deeper, asking a larger question:
How do you teach verbal control in a way that works not only for professionals, but also for kids, teens, and everyday adults?
That question led to the creation of Verbal Ki-Jitsu.
Verbal Ki-Jitsu is a unique system that blends:
-
Ki Aikido principles of non-collision, relaxation, and flow
-
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu concepts of leverage, timing, and redirection
-
Judo philosophy of efficiency, balance, and adaptability
At its core, Verbal Ki-Jitsu teaches the union of mind, breath, posture, and language. There is no resistance, no collision, and no emotional struggle. The goal is not to overpower another person verbally, but to remain centered, relaxed, and in control.
This approach allows conflict to dissolve instead of escalate.
Verbal Ki-Jitsu is not performance.
It is presence.
It is a system designed for everyone, because everyone communicates, and everyone encounters pressure. Learning to stay calm, clear, and aligned under stress is not a luxury skill. It is a life skill.
